How Your Moon Sign Meaning Has a Say in Your Life and How You Deal With Others

Everywhere you turn, people are talking about sun signs. In fact, if you’re new to astrology, you might not even know that it can go so much deeper! Part of learning more about how the planets and stars impact your personality is looking at other aspects of your natal chart.

One of the factors that can make a huge difference is your moon sign. With the help of everyone here at Birthdate Co, we want to help you understand the moon sign's meaning in your chart and how it can inform who you are from the inside out.

The Beauty of a Natal Chart

When you’re ready to dive deeper into how astrology can impact your personality, we highly recommend starting with having your natal chart drawn up. Your natal chart takes into account not just where the sun was at the moment of your birth, but also the position of the moon, each of the planets, and certain astrological bodies. To have this calculated, you need not only the time and date that you were born, but also where on Earth it happened.

It can be quite complicated to develop your own natal chart, especially if you don’t have access to the data that many professionals do. For instance, the moon actually changes signs every two to three days (as opposed to the sun, which stays for about a month).

That’s part of the reason that we created our Birthdate Book. Each book is made to order with your unique astrological birth chart in mind. It goes in-depth with more than 70 pages of detailed analysis of your personality, where you are right now, and what your future may hold. It’s fabric-bound, with a foil-stamped cover featuring your name and birthdate, so it’s just as beautiful to look at as it is insightful.

What Is a Moon Sign?

Apart from your sun sign, the alignment that can give you the most insight into your personality is your moon sign. There is a lot of importance to your moon sign's meaning, and it can tell you a lot about who you are in a different way than your sun sign can.

While your sun sign is responsible for a lot of your external personality, and how you are likely to come off to other people, your moon sign tells you the opposite. When you are able to calculate your moon sign, it gives you insight into who you are and how you feel on the inside. If you think about it, it makes sense.

The sun is bright and shiny, and the daytime isn’t usually associated with a lot of secrets. The moon, on the other hand, is seen as quiet, magical, and secretive, with hidden depths. Many people refer to the moon sign as being the “emotional compass,” because it really is the biggest part of what guides you as a person.

The ”Degrees” of Your Moon Sign Meaning

If you dive really deep into your natal chart, you’ll notice that certain astrological bodies are listed not only as their sign but also as their degrees. At its simplest, each sign takes up 30 degrees of space in the sky. This also has an impact on the way that your moon sign is expressed, and the way that you experience it.

For example, if your moon was located at zero degrees when you were born, that leads to a natural curiosity and desire for growth to be able to reach your moon sign’s full potential. If it was somewhere in the middle (between 14 and 16 degrees), you’re likely as settled as possible into the traits that your moon sign suggests.

And if it’s closer to moving out of your sign, around 29 degrees, you’re a seasoned veteran at experiencing both the strengths and the weaknesses of this part of your personality.

A Brief Introduction to Each Moon Sign

If you’ve figured out your moon sign, the next step is understanding how it can impact your inner world.

Aries Moon

Aries is the first sign of the zodiac, which informs a lot about its characteristics. Aries tend to be “go-getters,” and are likely to leap before they look. Aries moons are no different. They tend to be naturally impulsive, but also independent and passionate.

When it comes to partnerships, they tend to react in a less serious, more playful way, which some people may see as immature instead of adorable. Aries moons also have a tendency to be competitive and can come across as argumentative.

Taurus Moon

As the first Earth sign in the zodiac, Taurus moons are very grounded individuals. They need security and stability above all else. Luckily, for the important people in their life, they give that too.

So much so, in fact, that they have a difficult time moving on after a breakup (even when things are no longer good for them). But, once you’re in a Taurus moon’s inner circle, they will stay incredibly devoted to you for life and the relationship can get very deep.

Gemini Moon

If you have a Gemini moon, you tend to feel most comfortable when you stay on the lighter side of things. They feel so free expressing their feelings that it can be hard to actually figure out how they really feel because they are so prone to talking in circles. A little mindfulness can go a long way for this moon sign. The Gemini moon is also excellent at being able to rationalize their feelings, whether good or bad.

Cancer Moon

Water signs like Cancer are known for being emotional, and the Cancer moon really is no different. They give, give, give because their main goal is to feel like they have a stable, supportive home base.

Unfortunately, this can also lead to anger and resentment if they feel that their love and care are being taken for granted. Cancer moons also tend to be most impacted by the phases of the moon.

Leo Moon

Those born under the Leo moon are likely to view themselves as the center of a romantic movie. They’re the main character, and they feel most comfortable when they’re in the middle of everything. While they may be dramatic, they also have huge hearts and are comfortable expressing whatever it is they feel (good or bad).

Virgo Moon

For the Virgo moon, their sense of love and security is directly tied to feeling like they’re taking care of others. They’re far more head than heart and tend to overthink everything on an intellectual level (even the things that they should be feeling on an emotional level). It can be hard for Virgo moons to get out of their heads and learn to follow their hearts.

Libra Moon

Libras love beauty, and Libra moons are no different. While the Libra sun looks for balance in the outside world, the Libra moon also wants to feel it on the inside.

They are at their best when spending time with their loved ones, especially one on one. However, they also want to avoid conflict at all costs, which often means they don’t actually say what they feel to keep the peace.

Scorpio Moon

Scorpio moons are often just as intense on the outside as they are on the inside. They fully own their power, but they also have a tendency to keep their cards close to their chest.

It can often be hard for them to open up because they expect the utmost loyalty. For the Scorpio moon, it’s important that they understand themselves before they try to understand anyone else.

Sagittarius Moon

The Sagittarius Moon is a free spirit, and they feel constricted and suffocated when they aren’t allowed their own space to breathe. They love to learn and do things that will expand their mind, like learning more about other religions and philosophies. However, because they tend to be loners, they can also come off as harsh with the directness that they communicate.

Capricorn Moon

Much like their symbol, the goat, Capricorn moons are the type to put their heads down and get to work. The same goes for their approach to their close relationships. They’re always striving for more, which doesn’t leave a lot of time for romance. When you love a Capricorn moon, though, you know they’ll be there for you.

Aquarius Moon

Aquarius moons are deep thinkers, and they often find themselves totally lost in thought on a regular basis. They want to help the world above all else and are constantly thinking about how they can do that. They may also be seen as cool or aloof, but that’s usually because they’re trying to save the world in their own heads.

Pisces Moon

The Pisces moon is nothing if not an idealist. Even their closest, longest relationships are seen through the tint of rose-colored glasses.

That can make it even more intense when someone lets them down, and it can be really hard to come back from. It’s essential for the Pisces moon to focus on staying grounded and their own self-care.

In Summary

Your moon sign has just as much to say about who you are and how you deal with others than your sun sign, and perhaps even more. When you invest in learning more about yourself, like with the information we can provide you through Birthdate Co., you can gain insight not only into your innate personality, but also how you can use those tendencies to become your highest self. We want to help you so that you can help yourself.
